The considerable amount of management literature showing the effectiveness of teams is reviewed, and the text includes a number of case studies as well as discussions of the psychological mechanisms which underpin the organizational process. By explaining these processes, managers will gain enough understanding of what is going on, psychologically, to be able to see for themselves why a particular course of action would be either helpful or counter-productive in effective team building.
