Think of a book that you cant seem to put down, one that catches you at the very first sentence. Stray is this kind of book, its edgy and sassy, its full of butt kicking goodness. And I for one find that when you have a large imagination, such as I do, all the scenes that Rachel Vincent illustrates, appear to come alive in your head. that each scene seems to be described in just the right amount of detail, leaving you a little room to allow your imagination to open up. The character, Faythe Sanders, has what I?d like to call a little spunk, she?s a young collage grad student, who doesn?t allow much to get in her way. She thinks with a cool head ( well most of the time) and she doesn?t let anyone tell her what to do... except well maybe her father (who she?s always fighting with), that?s one area she cant control. Faythe lives in what you call a pride, the reason, well quite plainly, she?s a werecat, this for those of you who don?t know, means she can change into a "black leopard". Her life has never been what she wanted it to be, she?s always fighting that part of herself. In this story Faythe has to go threw three very important things: 1. She has to help track down a bunch of strays no problem there...right? 2. She is trying to figure out what to do about her first boyfriend (who she?s not even dating anymore, but he still loves her with a passion). 3. She has to figure out what she really wants in her life, can she handle the stuff her family throws at her, or will she runaway (yet again). This to me is the mark of an amazing writer, the reason...because she leaves you wanting, wanting to know what will happen next, leaves you sitting on the edge of your seat. For just starting out, Rachel Vincent has a way to her writing, her first book is amazingly good. Check it out and maybe you'll find a favorite just as I have.
