Excerpt from Stray Chapters in Literature, Folk-Lore and Arch???ology The puzzle which the modern writer has to solve 18 one that he inherits from a somewhat remote antiquity, and if his solution 15 not always a happy one, he may console himself by thinking that his' predecessors were not more fortunate.
