In the early days before the Civil war a bloodline of Thoroughbred horses became famous for their abilities as sprinters. A foundation stud for those first quarter horses was the great horse called Steeldust. This story is set in Arizona and northern Mexico in the early 1929s. Steeldust, cowboy Bill Shane's top horse, named for his grand-sire, is stolen and Bill's sweetheart is kidnapped by an enemy who runs to Mexico with them. The young man goes after them himself.
