have ten of Stephen Datz's philatelic books on my bookshelf and have enjoyed re-reading each one of them several times. This book is an excellent introduction to stamp collecting. Datz covers everything from the history of the first postage stamp to a general discussion of the stamp market. He includes practical information such as how to soak, identify, and mount stamps as well as information not commonly found in other intro-to-stamps books such as a chapter devoted to famous collectors. You will also find chapters discussing the methods of collecting, stamp condition and grading, errors on stamps, and how to spot forgeries. The Glossary, Resource Guide, and Bibliography at the back of the book are also very useful. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about stamp collecting. You'll find it very informative and easy to read.
