Wet scrubbers are widely used in small and medium scale industries as they are simple in design and lowest energy consuming scrubbers. They are capable of scrubbing particulates and gaseous pollutants simultaneously either in fine drop lets are continuum of liquid films. This book presents the investigation of a spray-cum-bubble column scrubber designed and fabricated to scrub air pollutants from flue gases at ambient and at elevated temperatures. The book clearly upraises the shortcomings overcome by this new scrubber. It deals with the design of wet scrubbers and its operation to handle both the kinds of air pollutants. The investigations made on the wet scrubbers are given in two distinct parts. The first part deals with hydrodynamic characterization of scrubbers under various operating conditions. The second part deals with performance studies for removal of particulates (fly-ash) and SO2, individually and simultaneously in the above systems. Particulate and SO2 removal efficiencies by the new scrubbers are favoured by liquid flow rates. Maximum efficiencies are achieved by the Spray-cum- Bubble Column Scrubber. compared to other scrubbers.
