Book Three of the Spirit Series. Sa-qan a Spirit for the Nimiipuu follows the people to protect and watch over them.
When soldiers attack the Indians, Sa-qan changes to human form to protect her mortal niece. Lt. Wade Watts refuses to let a Private harm her and her niece.
As much as I enjoy learning about the Indians because of my heritage, the mating of spirits (as animals) and mortals is a little much for me.
I know Indians believe spirits dwell in the animals and nature. And I know there are good and bad spirits in the world.
But for one who loves a good story and isn't looking for facts, it is a good read. It is hard to lay down but I did scan over a lot of the mating scenes as they were too much in this book.
