I am working on my Spanish independently and with a conversation class. The exercises are helpful, but some of the answers in the back of the book are incorrect. Just the process of thinking through the vocab and the grammar is very helpful. I had been looking for level appropriate readings in Spanish and this book has been great for that. The situations and dialogs are interesting and often have a clever twist to make them more fun. This book has good information and practice on grammar points. The discs are helpful, even if the dialogs are a bit cheesy.

Very good book for self-taught spanish
Although I'm not an expert on Spanish workbook/textbook combinations, I would say that this one ranks very high. Compared to those available through my library sources, which I consulted first, this book is thorough and it is filled with meaningful exercises. It provides easy-to-understand rules, excellent illustrations to accompany the Spanish story for easy comprehension and very useful lists of new vocabulary, not infrequently including some vocabulary at the beginning of the lesson that has already been introduced.
It is a welcome addition to my rapidly increasing sources for learning Spanish, which I intend to use professionally.
