That depends on your interest in the subject. If you want a well drafted chronological narrative, you have it. If you want near-infinite background (charts, facts, sidelights), you have that, too. Albert A. Nofi's The Spanish-American War, 1898 is two books in one. As such, it should interest anyone who may have wondered about the whys and wherefores of this somewhat strange instance of American colonialism. Nofi covers every aspect--the Spanish and American personalities, the reasons why, and the outcome of every move in this little-understood international chess game. If all you know is that Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders stormed San Juan Hill (or was it really Kettle Hill?) but you would like to know more, you will find this an enlightening read.
