One of the highlights of the collection is a pair of songs from the Honey Cone ("One Monkey Don't Stop No Show, Pt. 1") and Betty Wright ("Clean Up Woman"), which are terribly funky and, in the case of Wright, righteously indignant. The Chakachas' "Jungle Fever" is a hilarious, Latin-flavored groove, and Dennis Coffey & the Detroit Guitar Band's "Scorpio" is nearly as hot. And the four best smooth soul singles here -- Joe Simon's "Drowning in the Sea of Love," Bobby Womack's "That's the Way I Feel About Cha," the Dramatics' "In the Rain" and the Chi-Lites' "Oh Girl" -- are classics, making up for whatever weaknesses there may be on the collection. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
