It will be seen that from a literary point of View the address does not do the author the justice of many of his published letters and official writings, but it is to be presumed it was prepared in haste, and of course was not revised for publication. The address, however, shows Paterson's point of view as to the conduct of the Tories, and that the early leniency of the Executive toward them was, in his Opinion, a lamentable mistake.
