This map shows the geology of the Peavine and Cottonwood districts in Washoe County and of the Battle Moun tain, Skookum, and Reese River districts in Lander County. The so-called Archean rocks shown on this map at Peavine Mountain, north of Reno, are now known to be granites that are intrusive into pre-tertiary schists. Battle Mountain consists in part of sediments Older than the Weber quartzite, though it includes also the rocks of which it is shown to consist on Map V of the Fortieth Parallel Atlas. The determinations of many of the flow rocks given by Zirkel have been changed, largely owing to the development of the science of petrography.
