Near Fine/Near Fine Dust Jacket. SIGNED LETTERS INCLUDED LAID-IN ARE TWO TYPED LETTERS SIGNED BY TALCOTT PARSONS (1902-1979). These letters are on the stationary of Harvard University, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where the famous social theorist Talcott Parsons taught from 1927-1973; ( indeed, for many years, Parsons was the best-known sociologist in the United States, and one of the most influential and controversial sociologists in the world). The LETTERS are addressed to the author of the book, Professor Mitchell, who taught at the University of Oregon. Both are signed at the bottom "Cordially, Talcott" (Talcott is in ink in Parson's hand, underneath the typed greeting, and above his typed full name) The first letter is dated 4 May 1967, and discusses the upcoming publication of Professor Mitchell's work, and discusses and asks for suggestions about a proposal to have a volume of Parson's papers on Political Analysis published by the Free Press. Letter Two is dated 13 July 1967, and is note of thanks for a leatherbound Presentation Copy of Mitchell's book which Parsons' received in a ceremony at Cambridge. Both letters are well preserved, in excellent condition. Other ephemera include: another letter of congratulations and appreciation from a Parsons' scholar at Allegheny College of Pennsylvania, and a copy of a note sent to the publisher. Mitchell's book is 222 pages, including index and comprehensive bibliographies, and is solid and clean in near fine condition. PRESENTATION COPY / RARE / SIGNED.
