Excerpt from Social Dancing Inconsistent With a Christian Profession and Baptismal Vows: A Sermon, Preached in the Presbyterian Church, Columbia, S. C., June 17, 1849 To the Members of the First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, S. C. Beloved brethren: The following Discourse, delivered in your hearing a few Sabbaths since, is now submitted to your perusal at the earnest and united request of the Church Session. I desire here to record publicly my thanksgiving to God that the sentiments herein advanced have met your almost universal approval.
