For in 1915 Mr. Baillie Scott would have nothing to do with "the scholar or classic house," and called aloud for " the craftsman or romantic house." In the Cantor lectures for that year he put his case in persuasive words: "The main quality of the craftsman building is that it is elastic and accommodating. Windows and doors can be placed where they are wanted and the whole effect is natural, unaffected and homely. It kindles the imagination, and is full of the mysterious charm of romance. The classic house represents a statement complete and finite.
