Seller's Description:
Fine. First edition. Small octavo. 14, [2]pp. Stitched as issued. Modern unprinted wrappers. Fine. John Humphrey Noyes was the founder of the Oneida Community in New York, one of whose founding tenants was a form of free love: any member was free to have sex with any other who consented. Most records seem to indicate that Noyes wrote this pamphlet anonymously and had it printed on the Oneida Colonies own printing press. (Ericsson. *Oneida Community Books, Pamphlets and Serials* p.28; Carden. *Oneida* p.216; DeMaria. *Communal Love at Oneida* p.227). The pamphlet takes the form of a conversation between Judge North, Major South, and Mr. Free Church. The dialogue segues from a debate about the evils of slavery, to equating marriage as slavery for women. Very scarce.
