Sky Master: The Story of Donald Douglas and the Douglas Aircraft Company is a comprehensive biography of Donald Douglas, the founder of the Douglas Aircraft Company. Written by Frank Cunningham, the book traces the life of Donald Douglas from his early years as an immigrant to the United States, through his education and early career, to the founding of his own aircraft company and its growth into a major player in the aviation industry. The book provides a detailed account of the development of many of Douglas' most famous aircraft, including the DC-3, DC-4, and DC-6, as well as the company's work on military aircraft during World War II. It also delves into Douglas' personal life, including his relationships with his family and colleagues, and his role in shaping the aviation industry as a whole.Throughout the book, Cunningham draws on a wealth of primary sources, including interviews with Douglas himself and other key figures in the company's history, as well as archival materials and contemporary news accounts. The result is a rich and engaging portrait of one of the most important figures in American aviation history, and a fascinating look at the development of the industry itself. This is a new release of the original 1943 edition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. The original Sky Master is hard to find outside of a scholar's library, but one will miss nothing but the mildew with this fair copy. Donald Douglas, well remembered by airmen as building the twentieth-century's finest aircraft, will surprise contemporary readers with his native interests in aviation and his shortened tenure as a Naval Academy Midshipman. Resigning his Appointment to USNA due to then neglected offerings in Aeronautics (c. 1913) there, Douglas blazed a formative trail through a civilian apprenticeship in aircraft design. "Sky Master" provides many early photographs of young Douglas through to his manufacturing triumphs and later work on spacecraft. A good read for still-active interests in America as an aviation pioneer.

Great, Interesting Read!
Not too many books about Donald Douglas and Douglas Aircraft. Written in the 1940s, when the DC-4 / C-54 was the state of the art. This is a very good history of aviation and commercial aircraft. For everyone interested in 1930s & 40s aviation, this is a great addition to your library!
