This is a story about two lovers separated by duty. Shu Wen and her husband are both doctors. Her husband is sent to Tibet by the Chinese army. When Shu Wen does not hear from her husband after time, she sets off to Tibet to find him. Her connection to him is so strong that she spends 20 years moving through the Tibetan countryside with a nomadic family searching for some news of him.
The story is interesting, but not more than the descriptions of a Tibetan nomadic life, family structure (a woman can have two husbands,) butter tea, Tibetans' deep spirituality and superstition, love of jewelry, love of children, extreme generosity toward strangers and the magnificent landscapes.
Sky burial is a touching story of a love that has integrity, that transcends time and earth.

A wonderful love story! Fabulous, quick read!
This book is a very quick read, and a wonderful love story!
It is about a woman from China who finally marries the man of her dreams. Shortly after they marry (within weeks) he is sent off to serve in the military (as a doctor) in Tibet. Within weeks, again, the woman is notified that her husband was killed, with no explaination of how that could've happened, being that he was a doctor. Compelled by her love for him, the woman (also a doctor) convinces the military to send her to Tibet as well (privately, so that she can search for the truth of what has become of her husband, if he was in fact killed, and if so, how and why). The story unfolds over the next 30-plus years of her life in Tibet, from military to nomad, searching for the truth, and being an amazing example of patient love.
Since this story is based on actual events, the author has also used this story to try and find the woman she met that shared this story with her.
