This book is number 161 and it is signed by the publisher directly on the limitation prelim. Sir John Hawkwood was an English soldier who served as a mercenary leader or condottiero in Italy. As his name was difficult to pronounce for non-English-speaking contemporaries, there are many variations of it in the historical record. An Acceptable, navy blue binding with gilt lettering and gilt emblem on front board, gilt lettering on spine and gilt emblem on rear board, binding intact, moderate handling/scuffing to boards, age toned pages, partial original pealing at top and chipped at bottom, re-backed with new spine and original spine laid over, exposed board corners, rubbing along board edges, TEG a bit dull with some blemishes, new free endpapers, previous owner bookplate affirmed to front pastedown, small bookstore sticker verso bottom rear endpaper, few small abrasions to board edge buckram, some age spotting/foxing to front and back matters, without Dust wrapper.
