A pacy story
Armitage's version of the Gawain poem is splendidly vernacular, mixing speech registers for racy episodes and always maintaining surprise, best element of all poetry. I'd recommend this version to anyone who has not read the tale ? and to those who have: it will make them go back to the original refreshed.
