For their entry into the Christmas music sweepstakes, Die Singphoniker -- a six-man a cappella ensemble from Bavaria -- has chosen Christmas songs from all over Europe from Catalonia through Norway with, naturally, many if not quite most of the songs from Germany. How is it? Lovely, just lovely: the Singphoniker turns in a disc of warm-hearted and clear-eyed performances of such European Christmas favorites like Adeste fideles, O sanctissima, Von Himmel Hoch, Stille Nacht, and Kings of Orient. Interspersed throughout the disc are three tenderly played harp solos by the deft-fingered Irmgard Gorzawski, adding a touch of the clear light of heavenly grace to the Singphoniker's sweetly sentimental performances.
