I got this as it was a period piece. Never read this author before. I liked the story as it was unusual in that the kidnapping was not typical. It was not for ransom, but to sell the girl and in a foreign land. A woman determined to run away from her uncle gets caught and shipped to a foreign land. It is hoped she will be bought into a harem by the captain and at a hefty price as she is blond, beautiful and has violet eyes. She is a prize in this country. Declined by the Dey of the country - she is going to go to someone else. She thinks this is a good thing - comparitively speaking - she is going to fight the whole way. A plot is out to murder the Dey and a new plan is in place and she ends up purchased into his harem after all. However, things are not as they seem. Not with the Dey and not within the harem. Resigned to fight the whole way - this Englishwoman is given all sorts of leeway she is unaware of. Unfamiliar with the customs she only knows what she sees, and not the fortunate way she is being treated. The story is interesting, unfolds with purpose. There are some dangerous times and the "Dey" falls for her and she finds him different than original meeting/thought. You will have to read to find out how she is key to the plot in determining who is the attempted murderer and how she finds out about her "Dey". Once she finds out the Dey is not who he appears - she only finds out he is betrothed to another in her own homeland - mere miles from her estate. Will this story have a happy ending?
