Seller's Description:
None. Good. A fascinating biography of Shakespeare and a historical study of life in Shakespeare's England. Also with a record of the 1864 Tercentenary celebration of Shakespeare's birth, which was an occasion of intense rivalry between London, the place of Shakespeare's theatre, and Stratford-Upon-Avon, his birthplace. The celebrations confirmed Shakespeare's elevation to the status of national hero. In a full cloth binding. Externally sound, though with some marks to the boards. Bumping to corners and some wear to the head and tail of the spine. Label to spine. Internally, firmly bound. Library label to front pastedown, and institutional ink stamp to verso and recto of title page. Pages are mainly clean, with just some marginal age-toning and the odd spot. Good.
