Probably the best recommendation I can give is that my adult students always keep this book. Not one of them has sold his/her book after the course is over, and several have purchased more copies to give to their children or to friends and other relatives. Although touted as an introduction to writing, adults seem to appreciate the direct, pragmatic approach to assembling information in four different ways, organizing the information into reasonable groups, writing a good topic sentence, and supporting the opinion expressed with at least three good reasons for holding that opinion. Students quickly realize that the best way to convince their reader is to provide details which allow the reader to understand the writer's thinking. The middle and last portions of the book expand on the first section and provide grammar and sentence variety exercises. Thank you, John Langan, for writing this book. My students appreciate your effort.
