Nathanael improved his present opportunities--he believed the evidence given him, and he obtained greater blessings. Read Mat. xiii. 12. Children should reflect upon what they learn now, and remember that if they prize what they get, and use it for God's glory, they will obtain more. 2. Christ is the way of access to the Father. Through Him our prayers ascend to God, and through Him God's blessings descend to us. Happy those who are like Nathanael. Little is known of Nathanael's after life. He is supposed to have remained in Jerusalem for some years after our Lord's death, and then to have visited India for the purpose of preaching the gospel. Thence it is said he travelled to Lycaonia, and at last was crucified by the Albanians on the Caspian Sea. PHILIP THE APOSTLE. I. The Call of Philip.--Read Jn. i. 43, 44, and thus show that Philip was a native of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. By comparing this passage with Mat. iv. 19, show what following Jesus meant. Notice the fact that John records the first convincing of Philip that Jesus was the Messiah; Matthew records the call to be an apostle, Mat. x. 2-5. From Jn. i. 45 show that Philip, having been convinced that Jesus was the Messiah, was anxious to make Him known to others. Apply this. When young people have been taught anything new or pleasing they tell it to their companions. This is what they should do when they are taught anything about Jesus.
