In this 1987 recording of the Octet, the Berliner Solisten plays with lightness, grace, and a considerable sense of humor: although the performance lasts 63 minutes, at no point in its six movements will the listener cease smiling. In the 1979 recording of the quintet, the Brandis Quartet plays with power, tenderness, and a sure sense of the work's ineffable serenity; although the opening theme of the Adagio is especially long and drawn-out, the players' pacing and legato phrasing make it seem not a breath too long.
