And even when they may not be among the great treasures of German Lieder -- and Die blinde Knabe D. 833 can come awfully close to kitsch -- these performances by soprano Margaret Price are so superb, so sensual, and so spiritual that even Die blinde Knabe sounds like a masterpiece. And her performances of what are the undisputed masterpieces of German Lieder sound as great as any music ever written. This is especially true of the four Seidl settings from 1826.
