Understanding the restrictions under which teachers and principals now operate in cases of discipline, restrictions that appear to be very well known and understood by some of our younger citizens, it would seem to be a hardship that no faithful teacher should be submitted to, to have delinquents "charged up"--at least, if that term is used in the sense that it affects the record of the teacher.. 7. Is a course at a Summer School advisable, for young teachers, and what does it cost? The teacher who hopes to advance in her profession, must study--and Summer Schools and institutes are advisable, not only from this view but from that of the culture value of such work. Columbia College, the New York University, Cornell, at Ithaca, and Harvard, at Cambridge, operate Summer courses; the courses at the Champlain Assembly, at Cliff Haven, are conducted under authorized auspices; while the State Department of Instruction conducts summer institutes for teachers without cost, except for travel and maintenance, at Chautauqua and Thousand Island Park. Correspondence with any of these institutions will bring a catalogue giving full information, cost, etc. 8. In an arithmetical expression of fractions, being required to simplify, involving all four signs, how should one proceed? Where not otherwise indicated by brackets, multiplication takes precedence followed (or accompanied) by division, with addition and subtraction then in order. 9.
