There are many attractive features in the performances that bespeak close study of the music and its distinctiveness. Cuiller favors slow tempos that bring out the daring splashes of dissonance in the Stabat Mater. His choral ensemble, with eight singers, is a bit underpowered, but he nevertheless forges a lush sound that is appropriate to the sumptuous surroundings of Scarlatti's powerful employers.
