The author's work at Seville, in the course of which this study was a bye - pro duct, was interrupted in July, 1917, for the duration of the war. The tranquil thread of investigation was broken by a livelier interest in nearer wars than those of the seventeenth century; and now, a busy year later, the writer's memory, being blurred with new impressions, falls short when called upon to aid in revising and corre lating the facts herewith set forth.
