Sanctuary in the Barracks continues the story of Adrian Masters, a young man struggling to find his place in relation to the emerging political, cultural and spiritual revolutions of the 1960s. Waking Up in the Sixties told how, while a student at UC Berkeley, Masters found and joined a group of like minded seekers, embarking upon a spiritual journey that led him deeply inward in the midst of the dramatically changing world around him. Like many young men at that time, Adrian faced the question of whether to evade the draft and involvement in a controversial war or accept the responsibility to serve. Beginning with Adrian's arrival at boot camp, Sanctuary in the Barracks follows his struggle to develop an inner discipline of awareness amid the onerous demands of enforced combat training.
