This is a perfectly lovely disc of French Romantic virtuoso pieces for violin orchestra played with extraordinary sympathy and virtuosity by Augustin Dumay. Even with competition from just about every first-rank violinist since Ysa˙e, Dumay more than holds his own with the best players in terms of tone and technique, and he surpasses most of the best players in terms of taste and interpretations.
