Ihre Untersuchung ist immanent f???r ein Verst???ndnis der Dichtung. Doch sie sind zu zahlreich, um sie alle in der vorliegenden Arbeit ansprechen zu k???nnen. Der Theologe Hans H???bner hat treffend formuliert: "Wir werden [...] im Faust entschieden mehr an theologischer Substanz finden, als es weithin gesagt wird." Denn die Dichtung des Faust als Ganzes strukturiert sich im Wesentlichen durch R???ckgriff auf theologische Tradition und Bibel. Daher wird sich diese Darstellung auf die, wie Goethe selbst es formuliert: "scharf umrissenen christlich-kirchlichen Figuren", n???mlich den Herr des Prologs im Himmel, Mephistopheles, Faust selbst und Gretchen sowie ihre jeweilige Einstellung zur Religion beschr???nken, nicht ohne jedoch an einigen Stellen auch weitergehende christliche oder religi???se Motive aufzuzeigen. Goethe ist - auch unabh???ngig von seinen eigenen Glaubensvorstellungen - Mitglied des abendl???ndischen, christlich gepr???gten Kulturkreises. Da er bereits im "Vorspiel auf dem Theater" bekennt, f???r sein zeitgen???ssisches Publikum zu schreiben, das im Gegensatz zum heutigen noch traditionell einen Zugang zum G???ttlichen sowie Teuflischen hat, kann er eine Rahmengestaltung w???hlen, die eben diese beiden Verk???rperungen von Gut und B???se beinhaltet. Zwischen dem traditionell Guten, dem christlichen Gott - wie weit der Herr des Prologs diesem ent- oder widerspricht, wird noch zu zeigen sein - und dem traditionell B???sen, der Teufelsgestalt Mephistopheles, beginnt ein Spiel um den auf besondere Weise menschlichen Doktor Heinrich Faust, der in sich sowohl die guten als auch die b???sen Elemente sp???rt.
