"March 31, 2012 was a moment in life that will never be forgotten. It was the day I laid next to my husband's gravesite as dirt covered his casket. With each shovel of dirt, I felt reality close in on me. Jamie wasn't coming back. This wasn't a dream. So many thoughts filled my mind after I buried my husband. Why him? How did this happen? What am I going to do without Jamie?" Melissa Jarboe is the widow of SSG Jamie Jarboe. Jamie was shot by a sniper in the Zhari District of Afghanistan while on patrol in April of 2011, and he passed away in 2012. Melissa kept a detailed journal while her husband was hospitalized. In Sacrificed, Melissa opens her heart to share their journey and to help others who may be facing the same challenges. To carry on her husband's dying wish to care for his fellow service members, Melissa founded the Military Veteran Project (a military nonprofit) as well as Topeka's Veterans Parade. All of the proceeds from Sacrificed go to the Military Veteran Project to help military families in need.
