Seller's Description:
None. Fine in Near Fine jacket. A lovely first edition, first impression copy of Unsworth's Booker Prize winning historical novel, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. First Edition, First Impression. In the original unclipped dust wrapper. Â This is a lovely copy of Unsworth's historical fiction novel, which was the joint winner of the Man Booker Prize in 1992. The story is set in the eighteenth century on the Liverpool Merchant, a slave ship which is part of the triangular trade. It follows the characters of Erasmus Kemp, who is the son of a wealthy merchant, and Matthew Paris, a physician and scientist. This work was followed with a sequel, 'The Quality of Mercy', which was published in 2011. Â Barry Unsworth (1930-2012) was an English writer who wrote primarily historical fiction. He published seventeen novels and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize three separate times. Â Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with no noticeable faults other than light bumping to the tail end of spine. Sticker to bottom edge of verso of front endpaper. Dust wrapper is excellent, with light age toning to the edges of the reverse and a mark to the spine region of reverse. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Fine.
This book is a masterpiece. It's well written, perfectly presented, thought provoking and it describes a time in history that should never be forgotten. This will join my list of all time favorite books. The subject matter is difficult but so well handled it is a riveting page turner. Highly recommended.
