Where the previous album had slowly building trancelike material, however, Sedatif... is a mixed affair. The opening track, a remix of sorts, often seems like fragments strung together arbitrarily, with long passages resembling musique concrète more than the guitar-heavy instrumental post-rock style that Fly Pan Am and the other Godspeed You Black Emperor projects do so well. The middle cut is a funk groove that has sinister overtones. The closer is like a dream sequence, with Morpheus twiddling the dial to see what interesting stuff happens.
