These poems reflecting on my experiences with Russia are a supplement to Tolstoy's Lament, published in English and Russian in St. Petersburg in 1994. Some had not been translated into Russian, and others were written after that volume was published. The title of this collection and of the concluding poem is a response to the old Russian question, "What is to be done?" "Joint Venture" was written after a conversation with Irina Kuzmicheva, who was immensely helpful to us on several visits to Moscow; it is dedicated to her. "Nouvelle Cuisine" is meant to lighten things up a bit without offending. "Algis and Sergei" is partially based on real people, and "Questions" is based on a newspaper report. "Believers, Dreamers" and "Heritage," were written for the Annual International Conferences on Conflict Resolution held in St. Petersburg each May since 1995.
