invaluable resource for serious rug weavers
This book is not near as thick as Collingwood's Rug Weaving Techniques. It is however a continuation of what was taught there. In contrast, this one is illustrated with many color pictures of weaving samples throughout the book. Very clear diagrams for details of perfect weaving results. The author is unusual in that his education originally prepared him to be a doctor of medicine, following in his father's footsteps. He did not have passion for medicine though and discovered weaving as a young doctor. The book is a goldmine of information on technical solutions to many details of rug weaving. One subject covered in this book, shaft-switching, was invented by the author and such a description is invaluable to all who desire to master that technique. It is quite an ingenious method of extending endless possibilities of variation to the weaving loom. He includes a description of the equipment needed to produce the technique with measurements of the various parts so that you can make it yourself. In addition there are directions for rug finishings and other general weaving techniques applicable to all weaving.
