Good. 20 pages highlighted, cover hinge crease. cover and page corners bent and worn. 82 pages, 8 1/4" x 5 3/4" Early in 1973 two thin slivers of wood, stuck together, when pealed apart, were found to be covered in tiny, spidery, ink writing. Infra-red photography revealed it was part of a letter to a soldier at Vindolanda, promising the dispatch of a parcel containing shoes, socks and underpants. A new era in Romano-British history had dawned. Vindolanda's Roman writing tablets now number some 1900 and the total will increase as excavations continue The photographs of the tablets in this book are those which are needed for the decipherment of the texts-special infra-red photographs, which enhance the carbon based ink. Included in this book are tablets whose texts have already been published.
