Nevertheless, just as stopped clocks are right twice a day, the buyer of this disc will luck into intriguing listening. The first disc joins together three works that are played frequently enough, and even occasionally joined together (Sharon Isbin offers a strong version of the trio). The sunny carnival of the Rodrigo Concierto de Aranjuez, the contrapuntal rigor of the Villa-Lobos Guitar Concerto, and the tuneful Concierto del sur of Mexican composer Manuel Ponce are all linked together by Spanish rhythms that set off the individuality of the three composers.
