The music on the program is performed by several different guitarists, and there's no indication as to where any of the various recordings originated. Nevertheless, just as stopped clocks are right twice a day, the buyer of this disc will luck into intriguing listening. The first disc joins together three works that are played frequently enough, and even occasionally joined together (Sharon Isbin offers a strong version of the trio). The sunny carnival of the Rodrigo Concierto de Aranjuez, the contrapuntal rigor of the Villa-Lobos Guitar Concerto, and the tuneful Concierto del sur of Mexican composer Manuel Ponce are all linked together by Spanish rhythms that set off the individuality of the three composers.
