They teach and heal on the way and encounter sun-worshipers, merchantmen, and other travelers. Barata is on a quest to find The Book of Life. Barata meets his true love who travels with them in a caravan. They challenge idolatry. (Jesus has a talent for attracting crowds.) A traveling sage warns Jesus of the dangers and futility of venting his frustrations on priests. When they leave Antioch, Maggie and Jesus wave goodbye to their friends and head for Greece.
