Unless you particularly want the first edition, which I did, the most recent edition is better. The book covers a number of routes that cross the USA, either east to west or north to south. It is a very good reference for places of interest along the routes, especially those that are lesser known. My one (minor) 'gripe' is that it covers Route 66 the wrong way by going from LA to Chicago. However, because the layout splits each route into small sections, it is easy to reverse the direction.
