The author Shannon Steede, like so many unfortunate parents, has had to navigate the loss of a child to suicide. June 16th, 2016 after a long weekend at Disney World, Shannon saw several voicemails from his father. The messages were solemn and cryptic. The devastation followed after that phone call to his father, and utter shock of hearing about his daughter Niccole taking her life the night before. Niccole was an Army veteran who saw the bloody results of war by working triage for the wounded. She suffered from PTSD, but rather than seek help, she tried to bury the memories and pain with drugs. Niccole unfortunately lost her battle and decided to take her life in front of her 7-year-old daughter. The immediate days following this news brought a fog to Shannon that was debilitating. Days turned into weeks and then years carrying the weight of grief. The author was eventually diagnosed with PTSD and after 7 years found a counselor who has helped the healing journey. Along with his girlfriend Karen's own journey with loss and loving nature, Shannon finally had the support that was needed to come to terms with his loss and recover. It was a tough journey for Shannon, and he hopes this book can serve others to navigate this journey of losing a child to suicide. It has taken a while to heal enough to understand that he was not alone on this journey, and offering to help others to understand the same. In this book, he will discuss understanding the initial impact and how to "Rise from the Ashes".
