A retrospective that paints an accurate picture of Lynn's Ichiban output would have to fluctuate between electric urban blues and gutsy soul, which is exactly what the album does. Ichiban's choices aren't bad at all -- "Whole Lotta Leave Me Alones" and the full-of-attitude "Trudy Sings The Blues" show how convincing a blues singer she can be, while "8 Days On the Road" is pure Southern R&B in the 1960s Memphis/Muscle Shoals tradition. Bobby Womack's "Woman's Got to Have It," however, has a sleeker 1970s type of feel. The new material ranges from live versions of Muddy Waters' "Got My Mojo Workin'" and Aretha Franklin's "Dr. Feelgood" to "Chilly Wind" (a rare example of Lynn embracing acoustic rural blues).
