Macon, at the June Term, 1867, of the Circuit Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, made a profound impression on the bar of the late Confederate States. It was the first indication of the view which the Federal judiciary would probably take on the legal questions arising out of the late status Of war, questions which affected every interest, all property, and lay at the very base of social organization.
