Another great book from Dan Walsh... "Remembering Christmas" was in my stock of Christmastime books this year, and I'm glad to have read it. The basic setting intrigued me: "The Book Nook" -- a cozy little bookstore in an old church basement in the small town of Seabreeze.
Art & Leanne run this Christian bookstore and the plot really begins when Art is found laying unconscious. I found his hospital life interesting to read of because my grandfather recently went through the same things: the ICU, the hopeful faces, the dangerously low blood pressure, the fond memories thought of and remembered. After going through all this myself, it was amazing to read someone else's story.
The only thing I didn't care for in the book was Rick, Leanne's son. He comes into the story as a disagreeable, unlikable businessman, with a hostile attitude towards his step-father, Art. When he finds out about Art's critical condition, he only becomes moody and feels "put-out" because of the responsibilities this means for Rick. Because of him I didn't enjoy the first half of the book like I did the second half, which I enjoyed because of the thickening, and I must say, surprising, plot.
Put this on your list for next year's Christmastime/December reads.
