Baptism precedes the Holy Communion; thus its type in Genesis must precede the eating of the tree, and this is what I now wish to trace out. quickening of the new man. It has its outward visible forms and acts. It implies the act of one who is alive. Baptism is termed regeneration--the being born again. It is the seal of the entry into the Body of Christ--the Church. It is termed a burial and resurrection, the putting off of the body of the flesh (Col. ii. 11, 12). Look at the events of Genesis--creation, the eating, and death. Look then at the remedial sacraments, Baptism and Holy Communion. They continue man's history. Genesis leaves man dead in trespasses and sins, separated from God, consequently deprived of the Holy Ghost's indwelling presence. "In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth, and the earth was without form and void, and the Spirit of God moved on the face of the waters." By the word of God, the earth was...
