Inspiring
This book explains so much about the MacGregor series. I loved this book it was so raw and true to how Ireland had to fight for it freedom from a greedy King. Again Nora Roberts puts you into the book were you feel the characters are right there talking to you and you laugh and cry with them, feel their triumphs and the loses. Thank you Nora for giving us the pleasure of loosing ourselves from our everyday world into the fantsy that you create.

Mediocre Fair from a Better Writer
Nora Roberts is quite possibly the most successful and best known romance novelist of our time, and for good reason. She's pretty good at what she does. Her heroes are passionate, brave and troubled, her heroines spunky and likeable, and when they clash it's enjoyable to read and you want them to end up happily ever after with 6 kids.
And this book is no exception. The problem is, after they have sex for the first time, about 1/2 to 2/3s of the way through the book, there's no reason to continue. Sure he's got to go off and fight in the Jacobite rebellion, but even though we all know how horribly that one ends, it's impossible to work up any real concern, since romance novel heroes don't die, and you never get drawn into the story enough that you forget thats what he is.
I never did finish the book, so I can't say the ending was bad, and it probably wasn't. He came back from war (perhaps superficially injured) she got over whatever insecurity-based emotional doubts/problems she had with the relationship (possibly after realizing how 'close' she came to losing him) and they all lived happily ever after.
If you want a nice silly romance novel, it's pretty good. If you haven't read a million of them already, the formulaic plot may not even bother you.
