This book was written while George W. Bush was president, when the movement Robert Reich refers to as the "radcons" ("Radical Conservatives", not identical with the "Neocons", but with some overlap) was in the ascendancy. It precedes the rise of the "Tea Party" movement as well as the election of Barack Obama. Despite that, it is still relevant to today's situation in that it analyzes the roots of resurgence of the right-wing in US politics and some of the failures of Liberalism (and particularly the Democratic Party) in dealing with its challenges. The reader will find it interesting to see where recent history has borne out Reich's ideas and predictions, and where it hasn't.
